New Live Album
Latest "Rumour" from PointBlank...
Though not officially confirmed yet, a well informed source has indicated us
today that the new Bruce Springsteen album is now set for worldwide release on
April 3rd. It will consist of a single CD and cassette, recorded live during the
final shows at Madison Square Garden in June of 2000, and will probably include
all the new songs premiered during the 1999/2000 tour (Code of Silence, Another
Thin Line, 41 Shots, Further Up on the Road, Land of Hope and Dreams) plus a few
more tour standard and perhaps some rarities. There's no word yet about the
rumoured live DVD, though most likely it'll be available on the same date.
An official announcement from Sony Music is expected very soon.

Minneapolis shows postponed
Springsteen postpones Minneapolis shows to late November
Bruce Springsteen has postponed his concerts set for Wednesday and Thursday at
Target Center in Minneapolis until Nov. 28 and 29 because his backup singer and
wife, Patti Scialfa, has a perforated eardrum, it was announced late Monday by
Springsteen's publicist.
Tickets for Wednesday's show will be honored Nov. 28, and Thursday's tickets can
be used Nov. 29; there is no need to exchange tickets. A spokeswoman for New
York-based Shore Fire Media had no information about the status of Springsteen's
concerts Saturday in Fargo, N.D., and next Tuesday in Milwaukee.
Scialfa joined the E Street Band in 1984 and married Springsteen in 1991. They
have three children, ages 6 to 9. No details were available on how she suffered
her injury.
As it stands now, the Minneapolis concerts are the last on Springsteen's
much-anticipated reunion tour with his E Street Band. He had not toured with the
group for 10 years but resumed in July, performing in Europe and the United
States.

High Fidelity Movie
MOVIE SHOOT FOR HIGH FIDELITY:
MOVIE SHOOT FOR HIGH FIDELITY: Springsteen has just shot what will be his first appearance in a (non-concert) film, playing none other than himself. In Manhattan this week, a dream sequence featuring Springsteen was filmed for the movie version of Nick Hornby's fantastic High Fidelity. John Cusack is starring in the adaptation of Hornby's book, which seems to have finally lured Bruce onto the silver screen and seems a perfect fit.

SPRINGSTEEN PLAYS WITH GRUSHECKY:
Tonight, with less than a week to go before the
month-long Meadowlands stand begins, Springsteen played to a considerably smaller crowd on
the Jersey shore. On Friday night July 9 at Hooligans (formerly Cheers) in Long Branch,
NJ, Springsteen joined Joe Grushecky on stage for four songs. After watching most of Joe's
set, Bruce strapped on an acoustic guitar, took a stool and gave an estimated crowd of
75-100 people a rare treat. Grushecky and Springsteen both played acoustic guitar, with
Bruce mostly on background vocals: "Never Be Enough Time," "Brown Eyed
Girl," "Pumping Iron" and "Talking to the King." He signed
autographs outside after the show, and before he rode off on his motorcycle, he said,
"See you Thursday." And to all a good night.

Springsteen Ticket Sales Set Record At N.J. Arena
Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band set a new industry record for concert sales as
fans snapped up 300,000 tickets to 15 shows at the Meadowlands in New Jersey in just 13
hours, promoters said Sunday.
The number of tickets sold Saturday was an industry record for large arenas, breaking a
previous record that was also set by Springsteen at the Meadowlands when he sold out 11
shows in 1992, said the arena and concert promoters Shore Fire Media.
Springsteen and his longtime backup band, which have been performing in Europe, begin the
U.S. leg of their tour on July 15 with a concert at the Meadowlands, just across the
Hudson River from New York City. The stint at the arena lasts until Aug. 12

A REHEARSAL - Second Night (March 19)
Two more songs and one big surprise on last night's
rehearsal. Six songs were different from the first show: "Darlington County",
"Mansion on the Hill", "Murder Incorporated", "For You",
"Give the Girl a Kiss" and "The Promise". That version of "The
Promise" was the biggest surprise of the evening. Bruce played it alone at the piano
with a spotlight on him. They played the new song "Land op Hope
and Dreams" once again and "Give the Girl a Kiss" was played live for
the first time.

A REHEARSAL - First Night (March 18)
Hi there. Just got back from the first Rehearsal-show in Asbury Park. Bruce & the E-Streeters are definitely ready for the tour. The announced 1 hour show lasted for 2.5 hours! They kicked off with PROVE IT ALL NIGHT at 8.05pm. Followed by: TWO HEARTS * DARKNESS ON THE EDGE OF TOWN * MY LOVE WILL NOT LET YOU DOWN * FACTORY * THE RIVER * YOUNGSTOWN * BADLANDS * OUT IN THE STREETS * 10TH AVENUE FREEZE-OUT * TOUGHER THAN THE REST * SPIRITS IN THE NIGHT * THE GHOST OF TOM JOAD * PROMISED LAND * SHE'S THE ONE * BACKSTREETS * LIGHT OF DAY * BORN TO RUN * BOBBY JEAN * STREETS OF PHILADELPHIA * THUNDER ROAD * IF I SHOULD FALL BEHIND * LAND OF HOPE AND DREAMS. .... The show closed at 10.35pm with the great new song LAND OF HOPE.... For now, we just pick up a few highlights... MY LOVE... was the only song from TRACKS. It sounded very good, very rocking with three guitars. The next 3 songs were just beautiful. First FACTORY with a nice intro and Bruce & Patti sharing vocals. Followed by a new arrangement of THE RIVER, starting with a sax-intro, then Bruce started playing harmonica and sung the song different. YOUNGSTOWN was just unbelievable!! Amazing! It started slowly and kicked finally in a fullband rocksong. While Bruce was changing his guitar after the first lines of BADLANDS, the audience was singing the rest of the first verse. The band introduction was part of 10TH AVENUE. SPIRITS IN THE NIGHT was a funny rendition. Bruce forgot some words and was laughing and joking with the crowd. TOM JOAD was playing in an interesting sparse fullband version. The next four songs sounded just great. After LIGHT OF DAY the band lined up in front of the stage. Instead of going backstage they went back to their instruments and rocked the house down with BORN TO RUN & BOBBY JEAN. Bruce, Patti, Nils, Clarence & Steve shared vocals together and sung also solo parts on IF I SHOULD... The band looked happy and had a lot of fun onstage. We think they still have to work on a few arrangements but overall, they sounded pretty good. Bruce said he is happy to play finally the convention hall. For the two of us, it was just an amazing night!!! There was definitely magic on the boardwalk. ........... THIS TRAIN carries saints and sinners, THIS TRAIN carries loosers and winners, THIS TRAIN carries souls departed... THIS TRAIN bells of freedom ringing...

HOF News
It's official. The E Street Band will perform with Bruce Springsteen when he's inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 15, even though they won't be entering the Hall with him.
Springsteen's long-time manager, Jon Landau, however, tells me he's lobbying to change the rules that prohibit any artist from being inducted by the hall until 25 years after their first recording. Springsteen qualifies because his first album, "Greetings from Asbury Park," was released in 1973. Although such E Streeters as Clarence Clemons and Danny Federici were a part of the Springsteen phenomenon from his first recordings, the group wasn't billed on record as Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band until his live album in 1985. "That would mean they're not eligible until 2010, which we think is unfair in this case," says Landau. "We're working to get it changed by March 15, but it's a long shot." Rock and Roll Hall of Fame executive director Suzan Evans agrees. "Rules are rules," she says.
However it all plays out, expect Bono to give Springsteen's induction speech at the star-studded Waldorf-Astoria event. Other inductees this year include Billy Joel, Paul McCartney and the Staple Singers, who will be introduced by none other than five-time Grammy winner Lauryn Hill.

Springsteen on Late Night; More Unreleased Tracks Coming
Last December, Bruce Springsteen's management released a statement confirming the singer
would mount a 1999 world tour with his longtime backup group the E Street Band, the first
such tour between the Boss and the boys since 1988. The short note said more details
of the tour would be announced in the new year. Though it's nearly March, not a
single date has been announced for what was widely assumed to be a spring-summer tour.
But tonight could mark the beginning of a flurry of activity surrounding the
reunion, as Springsteen makes a guest appearance on Late Night With Conan O'Brien to
celebrate drummer Max Weinberg's last show with his new boss before rejoining his old Boss
for the E Street reunion. Springsteen performed his song "Working on the
Highway" with the Max Weinberg 7, the Late Night house band, several members of which
have played with Bruce in the past.
As for the E Streeters' 1999 world tour, rehearsals started a few weeks ago, and the first
dates are now rumored to be set for early April in Spain. The tour would then wind
through indoor and outdoor venues in Europe before wrapping up in the U.K. in late May.
A summer tour of U.S., including a long residency in New Jersey, would follow in
June, July, and August.
To coincide with the start of the tour, Columbia plans to release a single-CD compilation
drawn from the recently released four-CD box set Tracks on April 13. The big news
for fans is that 18 Tracks will add three songs left off of Tracks, among them two songs
which generated considerable comment over their original omission: "The
Fever" and "The Promise." The former is a nearly eight-minute soulful
ballad recorded May 16, 1973, and performed in concert as late as 1978. The studio
recording of the song was even sent to a few radio stations in the mid-'70s that were
early supporters of Springsteen. Southside Johnny eventually cut a version of his
friend's song for his 1976 debut, I Don't Want To Go Home.
The inclusion of "The Promise" is sure to both please and surprise devoted fans.
When asked in recent interviews why the song didn't appear on Tracks, Springsteen
said that he would have put it on had he found what he felt was a satisfactory take.
To that end, Springsteen re-recorded a new version of "The Promise"
earlier this month (February 12 to be exact) for inclusion on 18 Tracks. The third
"new" song is "Trouble River," an outtake from Human Touch recorded
April 6, 1990 that has popped up on a few bootlegs.

Night". Maybe Bruce wasn't happy that he mentioned a song). He just said he loves to
play Born In The USA, I'm On Fire and Restless Nights. He did also talk about the late
night show, of course.
Still no news regarding the tour.

Elliott Murphy in Concert
Drive All Night is proud to announce that the great singer/songwriter Elliott Murphy will
be back at the Club Albani in Winterthur on Monday, March 8. After last years
success, we decided to book him a second time. This time, he's coming as a duo with a
French guitar player. For those of you who missed the gig last year, here you go, that's
your second chance.
Elliott Murphy grew up in the 60's in the states, but is living now in Paris. In the early
70's, he was put in the same bag (new Bob Dylan) by the music industry together with Bruce
Springsteen and other singer/songwriters. Elliott and Bruce know each other since then.
Bruce sung on Elliott's '94 release "Selling The Gold" on the beautiful ballad
"Everything I Do". The last couple of times when Bruce played in Paris, Elliott
always joined him on stage for a song or two. Don't miss him!!!

Little Steven Interview
The first (almost) official word that the tour will commence in Europe came yesterday when Little Steven, interviewed in the Asbury Park Press, about his new TV series The Sopranos - an everyday story of mafia folk - was asked if the TV schedules would clash with his touring commitments:
"But Bruce Springsteen need not worry about losing a guitarist for his summer reunion tour with the E Street Band: Van Zandt said he's looking forward to it. "I think we're starting with some dates in Europe," Van Zandt said, "but we'll be back in America when shooting for the second season begins in June."
Though the series doesn't begin airing for a few days, both the show and Steve have already been getting positive reviews. A premiere party was held on January 7 in New York City, where guests included Bruce Springsteen and Patti Scialfa for a screening of the first two episodes.
