Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band
Announce Spring 2000 Tour Dates

First Madison Square Garden Concerts
in Over 12 Years are Confirmed

Bruce Springsteen's first U.S. tour with The E Street Band in over a decade will resume in Spring 2000, with dates confirmed for February, March, April, May and June. The upcoming series of concerts will include performances in numerous cities not visited during the initial leg of the tour. The Southern United States will get multiple dates in the months ahead, with shows scheduled for Florida, Texas, Arkansas, Tennessee, Louisiana, Kentucky and North Carolina. Performances are also set for Pennsylvania, Colorado, Oregon, Washington State, Missouri, Ohio and Connecticut. A concert in Toronto, Ontario is confirmed for May 3, and a small number of additional shows in the U.S. and Canada will be announced at a later date. Tickets for
concerts in nine cities will go on sale this Saturday, January 29.

The tour culminates with a multi-show stand at New York City's Madison Square Garden. These shows mark Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band's first series of Madison Square Garden concerts since 1988's "Tunnel Of Love Express" tour. The New York City performances will serve as the finale of Bruce Springsteen's 1999-2000 world tour with The E Street Band.

In 1999, Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band appeared before over 1,800,000 fans, performing 87 shows in 44 cities throughout the U.S. and Europe. Here's an overview: The world tour began in Spain on April 9, 1999. The European leg of the tour featured 35 shows in 26 cities in 13 countries between April 9 and June 27, 1999. The U.S. leg of the tour commenced in New Jersey on July 15, 1999 with a record-setting 15 sold out shows at New Jersey's Continental Airlines Arena. The U.S. tour ultimately featured 52 concerts in 18 cities from July 15 to November 29, 1999.

The tour received rave reviews throughout the world. In a spirited Village Voice article, Greg Tate wrote "there's no denying the roughneck transcendence of the form achieved by Bruce and the E Street Band -- via a skintight and impassioned deployment of dynamics, and those wicked slambang segues that never fail to blow your head back vertical take-off style.Springsteen, Lofgren and Van Zandt make guitar solos matter again by virtue of the sheer violence with which they attack their axes, and by virtue of how their leads leap out like sputtering dynamite sticks."

Springsteen To Release Fan-Fave Track At Last
1973's 'The Fever' planned as bonus track on box set sampler and could be LP's first single.

Staff Writer Chris Nelson reports:

Bruce Springsteen fans will have a 26-year-old wish granted in April when "The Fever" finally is officially released on the sampler album Highlights From Tracks.

"The Fever" -- a slow-burning R&B song originally recorded in 1973 and released as a limited promo single to radio stations the following year -- was one of the cuts diehard fans expected to see on Tracks, the four-CD box set of largely unreleased work that Springsteen issued in November.

"There were two songs that provoked an outcry when they weren't on the box," said Chris Phillips, editor for the Springsteen fanzine Backstreets.  "Everybody was not only hoping, but expecting, that 'The Promise' and 'The Fever' would surely be on the box.  In our most recent readers' poll, both of those songs were near the top of the list for people's favorite unreleased songs."

According to Sony Music Canada spokesperson Antonello Di Domenico, "The Fever" will likely be sent to radio stations as the sampler's first single, although that decision has not been finalized. Highlights From Tracks will be issued on April 13 in Canada, he said. A spokesperson for Springsteen at Shore Fire Media could not be reached by press time to confirm a U.S. release date for the sampler, but Di Domenico said the disc is scheduled for release throughout the world, including in the United States.

The release of the disc, which also includes songs from Tracks such as "Loose Ends" (RealAudio excerpt) and "Rendezvous" , will precede Springsteen's upcoming reunion tour with his E Street Band, which he broke up in 1989.Although tour dates have not been released, E Street guitarist Steve Van Zandt said last month that the outing is slated to begin in Europe in April and hit the United States in June.

While fans have long clamored for "The Fever," Springsteen confessed last year that he didn't like the song much.  His friend "Southside" Johnny Lyon recorded it with his own band, Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, for their 1976 album I Don't Want to Go Home. "I had a sequence [of Tracks with 'The Fever'] at one time, and it was very long," Springsteen told PBS talk-show host Charlie Rose in November.   "Southside did a great version of it.  It's never been one of my favorites.  So I said I'll put this out as a B-side or something."
As for an eventual release of "The Promise," a widely bootlegged song from the late '70s, fans should not get their hopes up, at least not yet. "We never really got a good version of it, in my opinion," Springsteen told Rose.  "We had a plodding, heavy-handed version of it, and I couldn't live with it."

The full Highlights from Tracks song list:  "Growin' Up," "Rendezvous," "Hearts of Stone," "Restless Nights," "Where the Bands Are," "Loose Ends," "I Wanna Be With You," "Born in the U.S.A.," "My Love Will Not Let You Down," "Lion's Den," "Janey Don't You Lose Heart," "Sad Eyes," "Seven Angels," "Happy," "Part Man, Part Monkey," "Brothers Under the Bridge" and "The Fever."

VIETNAM LONG TIME COMING (Soundtrack)

Columbia Records is proud to announce the release of Vietnam Long Time Coming, the soundtrack album featuring music from, and inspired by, the powerful award-winning documentary which is scheduled to be broadcast on NBC on April 17. Vietnam Long Time Coming is due in stores on February 9.

Track listings on Vietnam Long Time Coming include "Shut Out The Light" (Bruce Springsteen), "String Of Pearls" (Soul Asylum), "Ricochet In Time" (Shawn Colvin), "Learn To Fly" (Richie Havens) and "I Hear A Call" (Emmylou Harris).  The album also showcases six Ben Sidran compositions: "Bamboo," "Going Home," "A Different Drummer," "43 Miles," "Swami Daddy-O," and "The Last Run."
Directed by Jerry Blumenthal, Peter Gilbert, and Gordon Quinn (the creative team behind "Hoop Dreams"), "Vietnam Long Time Coming" chronicles an extraordinary cycling event called The Vietnam Challenge, a historic three-day event which took place in January 1998.  The Vietnam Challenge was neither a race nor a competition, but rather a chance for disabled and able-bodied veterans to test their limits in a 1200 mile ride from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City. The event was designed to let U.S. and Vietnamese participants heal emotional wounds and bring a sense of closure to a war that divided America and scarred millions of people physically and emotionally. The inspiring story of these veterans demonstrates the unifying power of sports and stands as a symbol of global goodwill and reconciliation.

Vietnam Long Time Coming is a musical document of the important legacy of this worldwide humanitarian event.

Springsteen Plans E Street Reunion Tour For Next Year

The band's first outing together in a decade is set to kick off in the summer.

New Jersey-bred populist rocker Bruce Springsteen plans to reunite with his celebrated backing group, the E Street Band, for their first tour together in 10 years beginning in summer 1999.

The artist also known as "the Boss" made the announcement Tuesday (Dec. 8), confirming one of the year's hottest tour rumors.

"Everybody in the industry has been looking for it, and hoping for it," said Ray Waddell, who covers the concert industry for the trade magazine Amusement Business. He predicted sell-out shows for the entire tour.

Talk of an E Street Band reunion has flourished for months, since Springsteen announced the November release of Tracks, a highly anticipated, four-CD set of rare and unreleased material, much of which features the E Street players, who have included saxophonist Clarence "Big Man" Clemons and guitarist "Miami" Steve Van Zandt.

On Tuesday afternoon, fans and concert-industry professionals were abuzz with news of the tour.

"If someone said to me, 'What would you want to see most after Tracks?' my first thought would be, 'A tour with the E Street Band,' " said Flynn McLean, a Maryland fan who maintains "The Boots" (home.theboots.net), an unofficial Springsteen website.

Shore Fire Media, Springsteen's publicity firm, offered no specifics about the outing in a brief press release, but stated that Springsteen's manager, Jon Landau, has confirmed plans for a world tour are in the works.

Details will be announced after the first of the year, according to the release.

The tour will be Springsteen's first with the E Streeters since the 1988-89 Human Rights Now! world tour to benefit Amnesty International. Coincidentally, Shore Fire also confirmed Tuesday that the Boss will perform at another Amnesty benefit show to be held Thursday in Paris.

Although rumors of the reunion were rampant, Springsteen jokingly dodged the question in recent interviews.

Meanwhile, E Street drummer Max Weinberg told SonicNet Music News just before Tracks' release, "What I know about that is all ... conjecture, based on this great record."

During the 1970s and 1980s, the E Street Band gained a reputation as one of the tightest and hardest-working backing bands on such songs as "Rendezvous" and "Badlands." The group -- whose most recent lineup was Weinberg, Clemons, Garry Tallent (bass), Danny Federici (organ), Roy Bittan (piano), Nils Lofgren (guitar) and Springsteen's wife Patti Scialfa (backing vocals) -- routinely put on shows that lasted longer than three hours.

Springsteen fired the band in fall 1989, saying he needed to experiment with other musicians. "I felt I needed to see what other people brought with them into the studio and how my music would be affected by collaborating with different talents and personalities," he wrote in his recently published book of lyrics, "Songs."

Chris Phillips, editor of the 18-year-old Springsteen fanzine Backstreets, said prospects for the reunion tour are "thrilling." For the first time, he said, fans might get to see the E Streeters perform work from the albums the Boss recorded after the firing -- Human Touch (1992), Lucky Town (1992) and The Ghost Of Tom Joad (1995) -- as well as songs from Tracks.

In addition, Phillips said the reunion "seems more like an artistic statement than a business move."

Springsteen and the E Street Band, he added, are less like the legendary Brit rockers the Rolling Stones, who continue to mount tours well past their prime, and more like the collaboration between grunge-godfather Neil Young and his band Crazy Horse, an on-again, off-again pairing that periodically regroups for more work.

The tour, however, almost certainly will be a wise business move, according to Waddell.

"There are a lot of people, who all they've heard about is the E Street Band -- but they've never seen them," he said. "The group is legendary. They've got a lot of clout."

Aside from a brief reunion in 1995 to record new songs for Springsteen's Greatest Hits, the various E Streeters have forged new careers.

The most visible has been Weinberg, who leads the Max Weinberg Seven on NBC-TV's talk show "Late Night With Conan O'Brien." Bittan continued to work with Springsteen as a keyboardist and co-producer on Human Touch and Lucky Town; he recently worked on singer/songwriter Lucinda Williams' critically acclaimed Car Wheels on a Gravel Road.

Federici most recently was on the road as a member of roots rocker Mary Cutrufello's band, while Tallent also has taken up the role of producer, in Nashville, Tenn. Lofgren returned to the solo career he forged long before Springsteen hired him to replace Van Zandt in 1984, and Clemons has gigged in clubs throughout the country.

When Springsteen was elected to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year without the E Streeters -- who won't be eligible to join him until next year -- many fans cried foul.

During an interview last month with USA Today, Springsteen reportedly described their contributions to his work as "inestimable."

"[But] I conceive of my career individually and independently," he was quoted as saying. "At some point, I imagine the Hall of Fame would find a mechanism to honor musicians that contributed to that degree to an artist's work."

While venues and dates for the tour won't be announced for at least a month, longtime fan Eileen Rehbein is crossing her fingers for a multiple-night engagement in Springsteen's home state, New Jersey.

"I'm looking for a 10-night stand, and I'm looking to go every night," said Rehbein, owner of the Almost Live music store in Belmar, N.J., not far from Freehold, where Springsteen was born.

"These guys have played together and known each other for so long," she added. "It'll come together and just happen. It'll be magic."

"Bruce Springsteen: Tracks" is Confirmed for November 10th Release on Columbia Records

Four CD Set Contains 66 Songs
Including 56 Previously Unreleased Masters
From Over 25 Years of Recording

"Bruce Springsteen: Tracks", a four CD set containing 66 songs and over four hours of material, will be released by Columbia Records on November 10th, 1998.
The collection spans Bruce Springsteen's entire 25 year career as a recording artist.

The box set includes 56 previously unreleased masters, many of which were recorded during the making of The River and Born In The U.S.A.albums.  The remaining ten masters on Bruce Springsteen: Tracks are b-sides, some of which were released only internationally.

Bruce Springsteen: Tracks is comprised of:

Disc 1:
Featuring 17 masters from 1972-77, including Springsteen's very first Columbia Records recordings, made in 1972 with legendary A & R executive John Hammond. This disc also features additional songs recorded for (butnever released on) Greetings From Asbury Park; The Wild, The Innocent and The E
Street Shuffle; Born To Run and Darkness On The Edge Of Town.

Disc 2:
Featuring 17 masters from 1977-83, taken primarily from sessions for The River, as well as from Born In The U.S.A. recordings. The original version of the song Born In The U.S.A., recorded in 1982 for the Nebraska CD, is also featured on this CD.

Disc 3:
Featuring 18 masters from 1982-87 -- additional music recorded for (but never released on) Born In The U.S.A., as well as tracks from the Tunnel Of Love sessions.

Disc 4:
Featuring 14 masters from 1989-98 -- including 13 previously unreleased songs recorded by Bruce Springsteen in the '90s, from Human Touch up to and beyond sessions for The Ghost Of Tom Joad.

In the liner notes, Bruce Springsteen describes the box set as follows:

"During the long intervals between my record releases, as I was spending more and more time in the studio, when I met a fan on the street I was often asked, What are you guys doing in there? I regularly pondered that question myself. What we were doing in there was making a lot of music, a lot more music than I could use at any one time.  As a result, my albums became a series of choices -- what to include, what to leave out?  I based my decisions on my creative point of view at the moment -- the subject I was trying to focus on, something musical or emotional I was trying to express.   In certain instances, as on Darkness on the Edge of Town, Nebraska and The Ghost of Tom Joad, these choices crystallized the album I was making. On some of my other records the reasons I had for choosing one song over another, in hindsight, feel a good deal less significant. One of the results of working like this was that a lot of music, including some of my favorite things, remained unreleased. This collection contains everything from the first notes I sang in the Columbia recording studio, my early and later work with the E Street Band, through to my music in the 90s.  It's the alternate route to some of the destinations I travelled to on my records, an invitation into the studio on the many nights we spent making music in search of the records we presented to you.  I'm glad to finally be able to share this music; here are some of the ones that got away."

September 1998

Springsteen Joins Unprecedented International Galaxy of Stars Celebrating Pete Seeger and a Half Century of His Political Music

Independent Label Appleseed Recordings Makes Stunning Debut by Assembling Renowned Singers, Actor Tim Robbins, and Top International Performers for Double CD of New Recordings

WEST CHESTER, Pa., Feb. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Celebrating the remarkable career and profound impact of folk singer and political activist Pete Seeger, an unprecedented assemblage of performers that spans generations and international borders appears on a new double CD, Where Have All the Flowers Gone, released today by Appleseed Recordings, an independent label making its debut with this extraordinary collection.

Bruce Springsteen, Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, Billy Bragg, Judy Collins, Peter, Paul and Mary, and Ani Difranco are among the performers who join actor Tim Robbins, Pulitzer Prize-winning author Studs Terkel, and politically active musicians from Bosnia, Ireland, Scotland, England, Canada, and Mexico on the discs. All acknowledge their debt to Seeger by performing songs or poems he has written and sung over the past half century to champion the labor movement, peace, civil rights, and the environment.

Seeger himself concludes the album with the debut of a new song, "And Still I Am Searching," which he completed late last year. The 50th anniversary of his legendary folk group, the Weavers, also is celebrated on the discs by a reissue of their classic "Wimoweh," as well as a performance by Seeger's former Weavers colleague Ronnie Gilbert of a new version of "Empty Pocket Blues."

Bruce Springsteen performs a stirring rendition of "We Shall Overcome"; Tim Robbins, backed by a large children's chorus, sings a dramatic version of "All My Children of the Sun"; Jackson Browne and Bonnie Raitt sing "Kisses Sweeter Than Wine"; and Studs Terkel -- at 85, the oldest performer on the discs -- reads "Oh, Sacred World" and "Blessed Be the Nation," a poem written by Seeger and Jim Musselman, the founder of Appleseed Recordings and once an attorney with Ralph Nader.

Among the performers and the songs they sing are the Indigo Girls ("Letter to Eve"); Judy Collins ("Oh Had I a Golden Thread"); Ani Difranco ("My Name is Lisa Kalvelage"); Peter, Paul and Mary ("All Mixed Up"); Richie Havens ("Of Time and Rivers Flowing"); Odetta ("One Grain of Sand"); Nanci Griffith ("If I Had a Hammer"); and Donovan ("Rainbow Race"). Dick Gaughan of Scotland sings Seeger's anti-Vietnam War song, "Waist Deep in Big Muddy"; Billy Bragg of England sings "My Father's Mansions"; Bruce Cockburn of Canada sings "Turn, Turn, Turn"; and Tish Hinojosa from Mexico sings "Festival of Flowers," half in Spanish and half in English.

Concert raises $112,000 for slain officer's family

by WAYNE PARRYSTAFF WRITER

RED BANK -- The greatest roster of home-grown rock 'n' roll talent ever assembled under one roof re-created more than 20 years of Jersey Shore rock memories last night, as Bruce Springsteen, Jon Bon Jovi and a host of others gave a concert that raised more than $112,000 for the family of a murdered Long Branch police sergeant.

The concert, titled "Jon Bon Jovi and Friends Come Together," was held at the Count Basie Theatre in honor of Sgt. Patrick King, who was killed Nov. 20.

The all-star jam featured a near-reunion of Springsteen's E Street Band, with former members "Little Steven" Van Zandt, Clarence Clemons and Max Weinberg joining The Boss on stage for some of his most memorable songs, including "Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out," "Promised Land" and "Two Hearts."

Tickets, priced at $125 each, had sold out almost instantly, creating an added feeling of exclusivity in the 1,400-seat theater. The audience watched a history-making night of collaborations involving just about anyone who was anyone in the Jersey Shore rock 'n' roll scene.

Concert promoter Tony Pallagrosi said he and members of the Long Branch Police Department both wanted to do a fund-raising concert to aid King's family. Pallagrosi called Bon Jovi, who eagerly agreed to organize the show. "He went out, called his friends, and the show came together," Pallagrosi said. "Everyone wanted to do it. Everyone said yes on the first call."

The show began with Asbury Park native Danny DeVito pumping up the crowd. "Are you ready?" he yelled. "You better be ready, because 'This Time It's for Real.' " As he said the words, a white screen rose from floor to ceiling, and Springsteen, Bon Jovi, Southside Johnny, Little Steven and Bobby Bandiera tore into the old Asbury Jukes favorite of the same name. The crowd went wild, and Bon Jovi and Springsteen fell to their knees at the first note. Springsteen wore a red beret, a black T-shirt and pants; Bon Jovi wore a black jacket, gray silk shirt and black pants. Southside wore a gray suit and tie, and Van Zandt wore one of his trademark bandannas.

Bon Jovi particularly seemed to enjoy himself, grinning from ear to ear as he watched Springsteen and Van Zandt trade choruses at the same microphone. He looked for all the world like an awestruck fan who had just been plucked from the audience, given a Fender Stratocaster, and led on stage to play guitar with his idols.

Springsteen yelled out a forceful "One, two, three, four, one, two," introduction to the second song, "Two Hearts," and Bon Jovi followed with one of his own songs, "Bad Medicine." The concert resembled a giant rock 'n' roll volleyball game, with musicians rotating in and out with each song. On any given number, Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora might be on stage with drummer Max Weinberg, Bandiera, Southside or any combination thereof. Often, Springsteen, Southside and Bon Jovi took turns singing verses of each others' songs.

Springsteen paced the stage as the band played an extended introduction to "Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out," and the crowd erupted as the song kicked into high gear. In a perfectly timed bit of choreography, Clemons strolled onstage with his saxophone just as Springsteen sang the line "and the Big Man joined the band." Clemons then proceeded to belt out sax lines as thick as a Sea Bright fog.

Bon Jovi drew shrieks from the female fans as he began his hit "You Give Love a Bad Name." Springsteen sang the second verse and played the beginning of the guitar solo. Sambora then took over the second half of the solo at breakneck speed.

At times you could be forgiven for thinking it was a dollar-a-shot Tuesday night at the Fast Lane in the early 1980s with Bon Jovi, or a cold January night in the mid-'70s at the Stone Pony as Springsteen and the E Streeters played for a small crowd of rowdy rockers.

Bon Jovi's "Livin' on a Prayer" closed out the first portion of the show after two hours and 10 minutes. Springsteen and company roared through "Badlands" for the first encore, followed by Bon Jovi's "Keep the Faith." The all-star band literally brought the roof down on the Springsteen classic "Born to Run," which knocked small pieces of plaster off the ancient theater's ceiling; security guards had to brush small pieces of it out of their hair after the song.

As the show neared the three-hour mark, it became clear that the carefully planned set list had broken down. Bon Jovi, Springsteen and Van Zandt gathered in a circle in the middle of the stage, teaching each other chords to the next song they hoped to play.

"We ran outta songs," Springsteen said sheepishly. But that didn't stop the band. As they struggled to find a tune at least most of them knew, Southside strolled to a microphone and began singing the schmaltzy ballad "You Light Up My Life," and the crowd laughed. Springsteen finally took matters into his own hands, deciding that the closing number of the night would be "Thunder Road."

At the end of the song, all the musicians who had participated in the concert took a group bow as the audience roared its appreciation.

ONE STEP UP, TWO STEPS BACK: THE SONGS OF BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN

The Right Stuff Records and artists from all musical genres have joined to celebrate the songwriting of Bruce Springsteen in a new set of releases featuring thirty-six cover versions of his songs.

Acts on the project range from The Smithereens, John Wesley Harding, Ben E. King, Kurt Neumann of the Bodeans, E-Street band members Nils Lofgren and Clarence Clemons to David Bowie, Donna Summer, Richie Havens, and Joe Cocker.

The project generated interest from dozens of diverse artiss who wanted to be a part of it and pay tribute to Springsteen as a master songwriter. It turned into a set of 22 new covers and 14 previously recorded tracks to be released, starting with the first single on 8/26/97. A second single will follow shortly thereafter, and the double-disc set will be available on Springsteen's birthday, September 23.

A dollar from every record sold will go directly to World Hunger Year, the organization which Springsteen designated as his charity of choice for this project (this is the first time that Springsteen and his management have endorsed such a project). World Hunger Year was founded by Harry Chapin in 1975, and focuses attention on hunger, poverty, and the grassroots initiatives that fight them.

The first disc, titled "One Step Up," contains fourteen new recordings. In addition, each of the two singles will feature four non-album tracks. The second disc, "Two Steps Back" is comprised of fourteen previously recorded tracks, some rare and some available on CD for the first time. A prominent feature of the second disc, "Two Steps Back, is the fact that ten of the fourteen tracks are songs that Springsteen wrote but never released himself, making this disc the first collection of its kind.

At the core of the project is the songwriting of Bruce Springsteen. The liner notes to each song were written by the recording artists and reflect their individual sentiments and perceptions of Springsteen's music.

The Right Stuff is a division of EMI-Capitol Entertainment Properties.

Stop Proposition 209 Campaign

Announces Bruce Springsteen to Show Support

at California Rally

Appearance at Federal Building Event in Westwood, CA is Scheduled for Sunday, October 27th

The "STOP Prop 209" Campaign has announced that Bruce Springsteen will participate in a rally to mobilize opposition to California's Proposition 209.

Proposition 209, if passed, would end Affirmative Action for women and people of color. The rally, sponsored by the STOP Prop 209 Campaign, will take place from 12:00 noon - 3:OOpm on Sunday, October 27th, at the Westwood Federal Building (11000 Wilshire Blvd.) Speakers will include Civil Rights leaders Jesse Jackson and Dolores Huerta, Women's Rights leaders Eleanor Smeal and Patricia Ireland, among others. Singer Ani Difranco will perform, and other speakers and artists are expected to be added to the program. The event marks the kick-off of STOP Prop 209's ten day "Save the Dream" Election Day countdown.

On Tuesday night, at the Civic Theatre in San Diego, Bruce Springsteen made the following statement from the stage in opposition to Proposition 209:

"There is a very cynical attack being waged on Affirmative Action in this state. It is important to all Californians to

Stop Prop 209. Proposition 209 would effectively repeal Affirmative Action. Affirmative Action has provided a

chance at equal opportunity for women and people of color throughout our country. It was founded in the search for

the kind of just and equitable society we hoped to leave to our children. It has been an effective tool in moving us

closer to that society. The Republicans Bob Dole and Governor Wilson are cynically using this issue to play to

our fears and to divide Californians along lines of race and gender. They need to be sent a message that we will not

stand for it. There have been too many people who have sacrificed too much to go back now. If you believe in an

America that provides justice and opportunity for all of its citizens, it is important for all Californians to stand

together and vote no on Prop 209."

The San Diego concert was the first of four California dates on Springsteen's current solo acoustic theater tour. Springsteen plans to speak out against Proposition 209 at each of his remaining local shows:

October 23 Fresno, CA Saroyan Theatre / October 25 Santa Barbara, CA Arlington Theatre

October 26 San Jose, CA John Steinbeck Benefit

Bruce Springsteen: Blood Brothers (VHS) will be released by Columbia Music Video on November 19th. The first edition of the home video will be packaged with a Limited-Edition,five-song Bruce Springsteen EP-CD.

The documentary chronicles Springsteen's recording sessions for songs included on the 1995 CD Bruce Springsteen Greatest Hits, and captures Springsteen in the studio with The E Street Band for the first time since their work on 1984's Born In The U.S.A. Music videos for "Murder Incorporated" and "Secret Garden" immediately follow the documentary on both VHS and Laser disc (a double-sided Laser disc version of the film was released on October 1st). The retail price of the VHS version, including the special EP-CD, will be $19.98.

The five songs comprising the special EP-CD are as follows. All are performed by Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band:

"Blood Brothers" - A previously unreleased, alternate version of the song.

"Without You" - A previously unreleased song, recorded with The E Street Band during sessions for "Bruce Springsteen Greatest Hits

"Secret Garden" - Featuring string arrangements by David Kahne, this version was previously available only in Europe.

"Murder Incorporated" - Recorded live at Tramps in New York City in February, 1995, during filming of Jonathan Demme's music video for the song.

"High Hopes" - A previously unreleased song, recorded with the E Street Band during sessions for "Bruce Springsteen Greatest Hits". This is a rare cover version of a song written by Tim Scott.

Bruce Springsteen: Blood Brothers premiered on The Disney Channel March 3rd, 1996. It was described as a "superlative documentary" by TV Guide. Jon Bream of The Minneapolis Star Tribune wrote "Blood Brothers shows how the musicians' parts are fleshed out after Springsteen teaches them the song; how one song can be given several different arrangements, and how the band functions as a group." In Daily Variety, Jonathan Taylor praised, "it's utterly winning." The documentary also features behind the scenes footage from the making of the "Murder Incorporated" music video, and included recording sessions for three previously unreleased Bruce Springsteen songs, "High Hopes," "Back in Your Arms Again" and "Without You" (two of which are included on the special EP-CD). The 80-minute film was directed by Ernie Fritz.

Upon it's release on February 28th , 1995, the CD "Bruce Springsteen Greatest Hits" was described as "an invigorating trip" by David Browne of Entertainment Weekly. In the New York Daily News, David Hinckley picked "This Hard Land" as the "best" of the new tracks recorded with The E Street Band, stating that it "finds romance and heroism simply in getting through the day. It's songs like this that most clearly set Springsteen apart and above."

Bruce Springsteen Greatest Hits, his twelfth album for Columbia, has been certified double-platimum by the RIAA.

Bruce Springsteen's first-ever solo acoustic theater tour resumed on September 16th, and will reach 33 cities in 24 states over a three month period.
